NHS Consultations

There are a range of new consultations regarding the NHS.

The DH has recently published two consultation documents that underpin the White Paper. They are Commissioning for Patients and Local Democratic Legitimacy in Health. The consultations can be found at:

Local Democratic Legitimacy in Health sets out proposals to increase local democratic legitimacy with local authorities responsible for local public health improvement functions, a new role in shaping NHS commissioning activities and a new role promoting integration.  This has been co-authored by the Department of Health and the Department Communities and Local Government.

Commissioning for Patients sets out the intended arrangements for GP commissioning and the role of the NHS Commissioning Board. Local HealthWatch organisations, acting as independent consumer champions, will also be funded by and accountable to local authorities. The document also outlines how local authorities may choose to work with their partners to implement the arrangements and how the new public and patient involvement and local authority health improvement functions will be taken forward.
