RVA was established in 2005 as a result of merging 3 town-based infrastructure support organisations. They merged to form one organisation to serve the voluntary and community sector in Rother District.
The aims of RVA are to:
Promote local community action;
Improve the quality and effectiveness of the local voluntary and community sector;
Proactively identify changing community needs and facilitate the development of services to meet those needs with the voluntary and community sector playing a key role;
Establish effective working relationships between the voluntary sector, statutory sector and other outside bodies;
Enable the local voluntary and community sector to influence strategic policies and priorities
In undertaking this role RVA has a number of underlying strategic principles:
to promote equality
to develop active communities
to grow the social economy
to highlight issues of disadvantage
to highlight the rural dimension
to build sustainability
In the furtherance of its work RVA will :
give priority to working with people whose full participation in society is limited by economic, physical and social disadvantage
enable all people to collectively play an active part in their community
enable the diverse views of the local community and voluntary sector to influence strategic priorities and planning
uphold and promote good practice in working within these declared beliefs and values and to work towards ensuring the services offered by VCO’s in Rother are of the highest possible standard
